Acrylic on canvas

If you own chickens, you will know how each of them is masterfully built and has its own character. Equipped with a small but witty brain, it can anticipate future events and recall the trajectory of a hidden object. Chickens possess self-control, holding out for a better food reward, and can assess their own position in the pecking order—both characteristics of self-awareness.

My painting shows that all those tributes are neutralized in one big noise. If we must eat chicken - let’s eat the meat from those that had a good life.

And, yes. I love Willem de Kooning’s work “Excavation.” (It’s here at the Art Institute Chicago). In a way, I borrowed some inspiration from him and did some excavating myself. Information, reflection, and frustration about the cruel poultry industry are all on this canvas.
